Bruker has announced their new RoadRunner™ explosives trace detector (ETD) for airport passenger and baggage security screening. The RoadRunner uses ion mobility spectrometry in a handheld format. Utilising the patented, non-radioactive HEPITM-source, the design of the RoadRunner provides excellent trace detection capabilities for explosives and narcotics to facilitate rapid screening in a certified, fully compliant system. It incorporates the patented CHIRPTM modulation technology that provides the sensitivity of benchtop ETDs in a handheld design, whilst maintaining a low false alarm rate. The RoadRunner features an intuitive “traffic light” user interface and automatic calibration to minimise the total cost of training, maintenance and operation.
