Use of mass spec for fingermark analysis ready for the courts?

The BBC have been reporting(link is external) about the use of mass spectrometry to obtain a wide variety of information about the owner from fingermarks. It seems that the technique is close to being used in criminal court cases. It also has the potential to be valuable in old cases up to 30 years.
